Brixton Brewery
Effra Ale

Brixton, London, UK
Another cracking new micro brewery, this time based in SW9 under an arch in Brixton. I’ve previously waxed lyrical about their Electric IPA and Reliance Pale Ale. Now it was the turn of the Effra Ale, which is an amber ruby ale.
Named after the Effra River which now flows beneath urban Brixton the Effra Ale is a dark amber proper British bitter. It is very smooth and although there is a very bitter finish the aroma is incredibly hoppy. It is the type of beer you’d have with your Sunday Roast in winter.
There are lot of interesting flavours to the Effra and it is brewed with Northdown, Pilgrim, Aurora, Ahtanum and Summit hops. It is definitely a lovely beer; although not my favourite by Brixton, I much prefer the Pale and IPA (my favourite). However, it is a lovely beer by a new(ish) brewery who are really going places quickly.
