I often see Lagunitas IPA in bars and pubs across London but rarely have the courage to ask for it because I still don’t know how it is pronounced. I picked up a bottle of it from Beer Hawk recently and was excited to try it based on my pal Tim Brown saying it’s one of his favourite IPAs. And he has good taste in everything.

Stone Brewing Co is a brewery I’d always heard a lot about. It is talked about in the same way as places like Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam and so on. Launched in 1996, just eighteen years later it became the ninth biggest craft brewery in America, based on sales. Recently in 2015 the brewery announced it would launch a Berlin base, which will only enhance its reputation in Europe.

For a long time I saw Brooklyn Brewery as the best brewery in America. At least, this was four years ago when I was first trying beers and trying to find a beer style I loved. I still love Brooklyn but these days if someone asked me what my favourite American brewery was, I would answer in a heartbeat, Anchor Brewing.

Anchor Brewery create some fantastic beer and have been around since 1896. Their ‘standard’ lager which I sampled in London’s best burger joint Honest Burgers reminds me a bit of Sierra Nevada. Every year Anchor Brewery produce a special one off Christmas ale that is different every year. To get in the Christmas spirit I picked one up to sample.
